Frequently Asked Questions

There are so many car marketplaces, what's different about Vroom Classics?

Good question! And one that has several answers.

For customers, it's simple: we're possibly the only place online where classic car lovers can find and buy ALL the products and services that enhance their enjoyment of their classic car passion. We love classic cars, and can't find anything like Vroom Classics anywhere online. So we built it.

For Sellers, it's more nuanced: first, our customers; they're here because they're classic car lovers. Second, we are on your side; we know that this market operates differently, that you're the experts so we're here to help not hinder you. Third, we understand that your products, like classic cars, are not commodities; our shopping experience ensure that they're not treated as such.

I've only got a few things to sell, can I use Vroom Classics?

Absolutely yes! As long as what you sell is relevant and contributes to the classic car hobby, though. We'd love to have you onboard. You are the life blood of our community!

I sell services, is Vroom Classics for me too?

Absolutely YES!! Services are an essential part of the classic car ecosystem, and our mission as a platform is to make it easier for customers to find the services they need - and maybe didn't even know existed! To get started, simply open a Seller account and set up your customer-facing profile describing your business and services. Then get in touch with us from within your Workshop (aka Seller portal) and we'll help you find the best way to showcase your services and win customers.

The good news for you is that we are currently happy to simply showcase your services for free (free advertising, nudge nudge). Our priority is to help classic car lovers find services, and to help service providers find customers. If you also sell products, please list them for sale as well (those will be subject to a sales commission). Over time, we will work with you to devise a fair, mutually beneficial method of monetising the customers that we drive to you, be it a referral (finders) fee, a revenue share or simply an advertising fee.

I already sell on other online marketplaces, how does that help or hinder selling on Vroom Classics?

Already selling on other marketplaces can be a big help in getting started even faster on Vroom Classics. We can support almost any level of integration that you'd like, from completely ring-fenced catalogues to tightly coupled. Once you've created your Vroom Classics Seller account, contact us from your Workshop (your Vroom Classics Seller portal) so we can discuss your objectives in detail and then make it happen.

Can I sell stuff that isn't new?

Absolutely yes! So much of what we love about the classic car hobby is that stuff is old, characterful, showing patina. All we expect is that you clearly, explicitly and honestly describe the condition of your product(s). Your reputation as a Seller, and ongoing ability to sell, on Vroom Classics is affected by customers' satisfaction with what they buy. So your task is to set their expectations properly from the beginning.

Selling on Vroom Classics seems too easy to be true, how easy is it actually?

It really can be fast and easy to get to selling on Vroom Classics: Open your account, add your products, complete a basic profile and, once you clear essential anti-fraud checks, you're selling! Adding products is the most demanding activity, but even large catalogues can be added in minutes if you e.g. upload a compatible data file. But, like anything in life, you can choose how much effort to put into your store. More time & effort invested at the beginning will always pay dividends in sales conversion. And at Vroom Classics, we hold a high bar on product listing quality to ensure your products aren't mere commodities.

How do I get started?

Click here to go to the Vroom Classics Workshop login page. There you can launch the guided workflow to create your Seller account, review/accept the relevant T&Cs, and then access the Workshop. Once in the Workshop, you should started by adding your products, and that process will guide you the rest of the way to launching.

What will it cost me to get started on Vroom Classics? When will you start charging me money?

Vroom Classics won't charge you anything until you make your first sale. We will also do as much of the heavy lifting as you will let us to get your products ready for sale. But there is, unavoidably, the cost of your time to create your store - and you can choose how much to invest in making your store the best it can be. We're here to help, let us help you.

How does customer service work on Vroom Classics?

We aim to empower YOU to serve your customers on Vroom Classics, so we provide multiple mechanisms - including live chat if you want to use that - to engage with, and serve, your Vroom Classics customers. If you prefer to take more of a back seat, that's fine by us too. In the end, we treat Vroom Classics customers as we treat our sellers: with fairness, respect and discretion. We always seek to find the most productive balance between the customer's and Seller's needs. We will defend you if a customer is being unreasonable, and vice versa. Obviously, without happy customers neither you nor Vroom Classics can exist.

Where are the T&Cs and how do I review and accept them?

UK regulations demand that we communicate a lot of terms, conditions and policies. You can review the general, public-facing T&Cs and policies linked directly from the footer of this website. For the Seller-facing T&Cs, you need to review and accept them during the account creation workflow, and they're permanently accessible in your Workshop area. We try hard to make them Seller friendly while maintaining a secure marketplace for all stakeholders, but if you find any T&Cs that you find particularly burdensome or even incompatible with your business, we'd love to discuss this with you. Sometimes we will be able to accommodate your needs and thereby make our marketplace even more productive for all Sellers.

How and when do I get paid for my sales?

We bias towards daily disbursements for top-performing Sellers, and put safety gates and checks for new Sellers that can slow payouts by up to 14 days. We use independent identity verification and risk assessors on both Sellers & Customers to keep Vroom Classics secure for everyone, and use their data to help inform how quickly we can move you to faster payout schedules.

I've had enough of dictatorial, confrontational marketplaces that don't listen to sellers - are you one of those?

No, we're the nice guys. Unlike some big marketplaces, we don't fundamentally mistrust Sellers. Instead we default towards empowering and supporting Sellers, whether you're a private individual selling a few unneeded items or a professional with a big catalogue. We've already made big changes to how we operate to better support our Sellers, and we aim to continue as we have started: listening intently, learning with modesty, and adapting where reasonable.

That doesn't mean we don't hold bad actors accountable: we use data to identify high-risk and low-performing Sellers AND customers, and adapt our approach towards those actors accordingly. We have no tolerance for high risk, low trust and abusive actors in our marketplace.

What are your returns, refunds and cancellation policies?

They are yours, as long as they don't violate UK consumer laws and related regulations. You are the expert of your business and we don't pretend to know better. You need to publish your policies, if you have your own, on your Seller profile which will propagate to your product listings automatically. Unsurprisingly, uncompetitive policies will likely impact your sales negatively.

You don't appear to sell what I sell yet, does that mean I can't join?

You can and should join! If you can't find similar products already listed by other Sellers, it means that there's a gap in our catalogue that you can - and should - fill! As long as what you sell is something that is relevant to the classic car hobby, we'd love to have you join our community.

If you need any changes to the category structure or to our product detail pages to fully support you, please get in touch from your Workshop (aka your Seller portal) and we'd be happy to help!

Your product listing structure doesn't work for my products, can I make changes?

Yes. You cannot make the changes yourself, but we'd be happy to make the backend changes for you so you can showcase your products optimally. Just get in touch with us from within your Workshop (aka Seller portal) and we'll be happy to tweak things for you.

Your commission seems very modest, what's the catch? What are the hidden charges?

There are no catches. One of the key motivators behind Vroom Classics is the near-incomprehensible labrynth of commission rates, extra charges, and and and. Clarity, simplicity and predictability are our bywords. Over time, we are likely to add fee-bearing services that enhance the marketplace for all stakeholders, but we will always endeavour to make any such changes clear, simple and predictable.

I manage my online business via an integrator (e.g. Volo, Linnworks). Does Vroom Classics work with my integrator?

Yes. We can integrate via API with most any major integrators, whether purely for catalogue management or also for your operational inventory management. We don't yet have formal agreements in place with any integrators, which would make adding Vroom Classics as simple as a switch-flick, but we're working on that. In the meantime, we'll use API and other supported data integration methods.

Can I interact with my Vroom Classics customers at all?

Yes, absolutely. We trust our Sellers to do right by (y)our customers and everything we do is aimed at empowering you to serve productively. We provide multiple mechanisms, including email and live chat tools, and you can choose which mechanisms and channels to use. We do not support off-platform communications and accept no accountability for commitments made off platform, so it's in everyone's interests to keep things on our platform.

If we find that our trust is being abused (e.g. a Seller is exploiting our customer communication tools to take customers off our platform to avoid paying commissions fairly due), we will take action against that behaviour and that Seller, including permanent suspension from the platform.

I want to sell into the EU and ideally into other markets worldwide, can you help?

Yes, but not just yet. We are in the process of putting the necessary infrastructure in place to enable our Sellers to sell beyond the UK. The EU is our first priority, complicated by the recent GPSR changes. We are recruiting multiple operational partners to provide cost-effective solutions that unlock the EU for our UK-based Sellers and vice versa.

It's important that you know that Vroom Classics aims to operate globally as soon as possible, because we're trying to break the geographic fragmentation in the supply of the great products and services that classic car lovers want and need.

I'm based outside of the UK, can I sell on Vroom Classics?

Sadly, only if you have a legal presence and inventory already in the UK. We have not yet completed the establishment of the infrastructure needed to support cross-UK-border sales and inventory movements.

We are working hard on establishing this infrastructure and are recruiting partners to make the cross-border operations easy, productive and cost-effective, but we're not there yet. But please get in touch with us and we will do our best to either find workarounds or prioritise our efforts differently.
