3D Design & Print Service

3D Design & Print Service

3D printing is a useful tool for reproducing NLA or custom parts, but every 3D printing job requires a detailed & accurate 3D CAD model/drawing. Producing 3D design models can be daunting, and does require specialist computer software for best results. Making the 3D CAD model printable is another unavoidable step.

This is a turnkey, all-in-one service that delivers the

1) 3D CAD model(s) you need to get your part 3D printed

2) The prototype printed part(s) to test fitment for purpose

3) Modification of model and/or materials as needed based on testing

4) The final "production" printed part(s) in the required quantities & materials

I can produce the CAD models based on your drawings or technical 2D designs, or reverse engineer physical parts using 3D scanners and good, old-fashioned measurements. I use the most appropriate combination of Igus UK's 3D printing service and my own printers to meet your objectives.

Please submit an enquiry describing your design needs using the form below, describing also the intended application and likely material requirements of your part(s) if this is not plainly obvious. Please also mention your target budget, and I will get in touch to discuss how best we can achieve your objectives together.

Jim Builds FAQs

How does this service work?

3D Printing is an experimental undertaking, sometimes requiring iteration before a final, serviceable product is created. Because almost every project is different, I work on a project/commission basis and adapt to your needs. The service is triggered when you submit an enquiry using the form above, and concludes when I have delivered on your requirements as we have agreed. The quality of my output depends heavily on the quality of your input, so the more detail, data and other information you can provide goes a long way to speeding things along.

Is there a minimum order quantity?

No! I'm as happy to do one-offs as they are to do big bulk orders, and everyone is welcome to use my service.

Unsurprisingly, the unit cost decreases as you order larger-quantity production runs, but you can choose what's best for your budget and needs.

Is this service expensive and reserved for classic Ferrari owners?

No. I think my service is remarkably cost effective and competitive for the results delivered. Unsurprisingly, the price varies considerably according to the size, complexity, material, quantity and precision you require for your project. Material choice has a big influence on the price, because some of the plastics are extremely advanced and capable of serving very demanding use cases in hostile environments.

Can I print ornamental objects? Or is this only for hardcore applications?

I can help you print almost anything, from ornamental objects to the most demanding car parts out there. Whatever your classic car needs, if I can find a suitable plastic to serve your needs - however modest or demanding - I can help you. Get in touch and see if my service can work for you!

I don't have a CAD drawing, can I still use this service?

Yes, that's the primary value add of my services! You can't 3D print anything without a good 3D CAD model, and I can create that model for you using a variety of information inputs from you including 3d scanning the object you're trying to replace.

Can I produce copies of OEM parts using this service?

Absolutely not. You are not permitted to use this service to replicate any article that is subject to a third party's intellectual property rights without their explicit permission. By using this service, you declare that you are the intellectual property rights holder of the part(s) being printed and/or you have the explicit permission of the rights holder to reproduce the part(s).
