Niki Lauda in the Ferrari 312T2 at the 1976 German GP - Limited Edition Giclee Print
"Fireball at the Green Hell"
This drawing captures Niki Lauda during qualifying for the fateful 1976 German GP at the Nurburgring, the race which nearly cost him his life in a fiery crash on lap 3 of 14. Having switched from wet to slick tyres on lap 2 and trying to make up for lost time, Lauda lost control of his Ferrari just before the Bergwerk curve, hitting an earth bank and bouncing back onto the track, engulfed in flames only to be hit by Brett Lunger's Surtees. Having been read the Last Rites, Lauda made a miraculously - and bloody - return to F1 action just 6 weeks later.
