About the Bosch 009 distributor(centrifugal advance only):

The 009 distributor can beconsidered a one size fits all. Originally intended for use on industrialengines, it's an all-centrifugal distributor, with the advance increasing asthe engine revs increase, giving full advance at around 3000rpm.

This distributor solves the problemsencountered when fitting after-market carburettors, which often lack thecorrect vacuum signal for a standard VW all-vacuum distributor. As such it'sproved its worth again and again on the race track. The 009 isideal if you've been having trouble getting the correct timing with youroriginal VW distributor and don't have a suitable vacuum port on thecarburettor(s).

Although the 009 can workwith most air cooled VWs, it can lead to the infamous '009 flat spot'around 2000-2500 rpm. This can sometimes be reduced by adjusting thecarburettor, but that usually results in increased fuel consumption.
